Mission Statement:
We believe your eyes deserve the same protection as any other part of your body.
Because when you see better, you perform better.
With the right eyewear, 90% of eye injuries are preventable while still looking cool.
We're on a mission to stop unnecessary eye injuries and help you perform at your peak.
Meet the Founder:

Hi, I'm Shannen Knight, founder of Sporteyes.
My journey into sports eyewear began while working for an eye doctor during college. At the time, I was pursuing a degree in Marketing from the University of Southern California (USC) and planning a future in corporate law.
During my breaks, I would sit in the back office flipping through optical trade magazines. In the mid-1990s, sports eyewear was beginning to emerge as a specialty category, and I saw an opportunity to combine my passion for sports with a growing need for specialized eyewear that could improve performance, correct vision, and protect athletes from preventable eye injuries.
As both an athlete and an eyeglass wearer myself, I understood firsthand the challenges active people face when trying to balance clear vision, comfort, protection, and performance. Too often, athletes were forced to choose between seeing clearly and playing confidently.
For my final entrepreneurship project, I wrote a business plan centered around sports eyewear. After reviewing the project, my professor encouraged me to turn the idea into a real business.
Instead of heading to law school, I launched Sporteyes in September 1996 at the age of 21.
What started as a college business plan has grown into more than 30 years of helping athletes see better, perform better, and protect their vision.
While the business began with an opportunity I recognized in the optical industry, the mission became deeply personal after my brother suffered a serious and permanent eye injury while playing baseball. It reinforced a belief that still drives me today: many sports-related eye injuries are preventable with the right eyewear and education.
That experience helped shape the purpose behind Sporteyes. We believe your eyes deserve the same protection as any other part of your body, and that athletes should never have to choose between safety, performance, and clear vision.
Today, I am a Board Certified Dispensing Optician with more than 35 years of experience in the optical industry. Over the years, I have been published and quoted as an expert in sports eyewear, sports vision, and protective eyewear. Sporteyes has been recognized for its impact and innovation, including being featured in Google's 2025 Economic Impact Report.
